On February 2, 2009 Kobe Bryant and the Lakers faced off against the New York Knicks. Kobe finished the game with 61 points a franchise record for most point at Madison Square Garden. Then six days later the Lakers again face off against the Cavaliers in Cleveland. The Cavaliers were very dangerous on their home court, but that did not affect the Lakers. Kobe Bryant scored a clutch shot with 2:53 remaining. At the end of the game the Lakers ended the Cavaliers winning streak at home. At the end of the season the Lakers won 65 games in total which them the one team in the Western Conference.
When the playoffs started the Lakers made look easy throughout the first round. In the second round, the Lakers played the Rockets. It was a very physical game, but the Lakers were able to win in seven games, advancing to the Western Conference Finals to face off against the Denver Nuggets. It was another game, but the Lakers were able to win in six games and advance to the NBA Finals to face off against the young Orlando Magic.
In the finals the Lakers were dominating throughout the finals and they were able to win the 2009 NBA Finals.
